Japanese Experience

Traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony

The Japanese Tea ceremony is a cultural activity, that involves the ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha, powdered green tea.
The art of its performance is called 'temae'.
You will have the opportunity to experience the performance of this art form and to taste the outcome as well: a delicious, slightly bitter matcha tea, with the essential piece of 'wagashi' sweet.

The Japanese tea ceremony is not solely about tea.
It is actually much more than just making and serving tea. It is a ritual process, where the master goes through the steps in a a steady flow. From cleaning the cups to serving, the hands do not stop. Just by sitting and observing him, we felt and understood how the tea ceremony actually derives from Zen Buddhism.
In Kyomachiya Ryokan Sakura Hongan-G, you can also enjoy this relaxing tradition as part of your booking.

Japanese Lifestyle Experience

In Hongan-G, you have the option to lay down your own mattress and make the bedding yourself. Enjoy this fun experience with your spouse, friends or children.
A futon is a Japanese bed. Totally different from a low-slung western sofa-bed with the same name, the futon of Japan lays directly on the floor, tipycally atop a tatami or other soft mat.

Japanese futons are quite different than western-style futons which feature thick mattresses on wood or metal frames that can convert from a bed to seating. Japanese futons can be very comfortable and cozy while providing a good night's rest. Even if you do not choose to use Japanese bedding every night during your visit, a trip to Japan is incomplete without at least sampling the traditional Japanese way of sleeping.
